Education - getting your message home

Developing the habits of sustainable living, including waste reduction, reuse and recycling in children, can be hugely influential and instrumental in getting these messages home to their parents. By informing and motivating children, you can start to notice a real change of behaviour within the home.

If you are a local authority and are thinking of developing sustainable education initiatives in schools then Resource Futures can provide you with a range of services, activity plans and classroom resources, tailored to meet your needs.

We can also provide services directly to schools; a service particularly attractive to the private education sector or where there is no direct local authority support for school recycling. Linking our schools services to our technical waste minimisation expertise can save your organisation money while enhancing the learning experience for your pupils.

Supporting all levels

At primary school level we have strategic and practical expertise in raising waste awareness and can be called upon to help develop, set up and deliver a programme of workshops, fun activities, assemblies, recycling systems and lesson plans. These integrate with the National Curriculum and can be supported by a range of information sheets to reinforce messages and provide practical advice and information for parents.

We can also be called upon to integrate with set agenda items such as recycling week, science week or environment week.

At secondary school level we can link to citizenship and sustainability issues and can integrate with the Eco-schools programme and events such as Going Global, Youth Parliament and Youth Forum.

We have specialist programmes for special schools.

Training teachers and waste educators

We also develop, run and evaluate training sessions for teachers and waste educators (including those involved with Eco-schools) and teachers during their university training.

On-the-ground experience

Our schools education expertise has been gained from our on-the-ground, education project delivery. Over the last nine years, we have had a team of fully trained teachers undertaking a complete programme of waste and resource efficiency related activities, lessons, assemblies and support for schools in the South West.

As a result we provide a wide range of resources, such as:

  • animated films
  • literacy resources
  • curriculum linked resources (suitable for use in primary and secondary schools)
  • packs of activities (suitable for use with cubs/guides)
  • posters
